Bilkis Bano Gang Rape Case
As per the latest report, the eleven men who were earlier convicted to life jailing in link with the gang [email protected] of Bilkis Bano at the time of riots which had happened in Gujarat, India in the year 2002 and the killing of the 7 members of the family of Bano, got released on Monday, 15th August 2022 after the government of Gujarat permitted their bail under their remission policy. The convicts lived in prison for more than 1 decade. During an interview with a media outlet, she expressed her concern and disappointment over the decision of the Gujarat government.
What Was Shabana Azmi’s Reaction To Release Of Bilkis Bano Convicts?
The actress burst down in tears and stated was “ashamed from the bottom of her heart” after knowing the decision of the government of Gujarat to set the perpetrators free. She stated “This lady (she is referring to Bano) has had gone through a huge and big tragedy. But still, she never loses her hope and courage. She fought in order to get justice and did all the possible things to made her perpetrators behind the bars. But when she is about to bring her life back on track, this great caricature of justice occurs…It is still not believable why the Government released them and due to this, they get the courage to do more such crimes.” She further added that ” Don’t you think women need to get some kind of security to live in this society without having any kind of fear? Azmi also became part of the recent objection by the groups of ladies and students in Delhi and she also shared a clip in which people are asking for fair play. On Thursday, 25th August 2022, the Supreme Court heard the appeals challenging the remission and searched for a response from the side of the government of Gujarat.
